With endorsements from the Pope, Presidents (and their wives), Sheikhs, Movie stars (and the list goes on), the “Bring Back Our Girls” campaign is unarguably the most popular hash-tag campaign of the past two months (if not all time). So it was only a matter of time before it took center stage at the most watched of all sporting events – the world cup.
Banners with solidarity messages for the Chibok girls, have popped up in the Nigerian team’s matches. With fans from other nations not left out in a global show of support. The underlying message from football fans around the globe to the Nigerian government is, “yes we’re enjoying the World Cup, but we haven’t forgotten our abducted sisters, so – #BringBackOurGirls!”
