For the first time ever, Algeria has reached the World Cup last 16 after a 1-1 draw against Russia, which helped them to clinch second place in Group H. Algeria is to play against Germany in the second round.
Russia was in the lead, putting in a goal in the 5th minute – a powerful header by Alexsandr Kokorin- however, they missed several chances to defeat Algeria. Islam Slimani’s header in the 59th minute was all the Desert Foxes needed to do away with Fabio Capello’s side.
Belgium topped the group after a 1-0 victory over South Korea, who were eliminated along with Russia. Belgium will play against US in the second round.
