Uruguay and Liverpool FC striker Luis Suarez has been placed on a record nine-match ban by FIFA for biting Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini.
The 27 year old has also been banned from football for four months. This suspension was imposed by FIFA’s Independent Disciplinary Committee.
The incident occurred on Tuesday during the last Group D games of the on-going FIFA World Cup holding in Brazil, between both teams which Uruguay went on to win by a lone goal.
The severity of Suarez’s ban was probably influenced by the fact that he is a repeat (biting) offender – this is his third biting incident.
