Uganda: Museveni urges Africans to unite through Swahili

Uganda President. Yoweri Museveni has urged Africans to use Swahili as a way to unify the continent during his African Integration Day speech on Wednesday, 7th July – Africa News reports

Museveni said Swahili was a “neutral language”, non-ethnic that “belongs to nobody”

The Ugandan ruler disclosed that the way Africans will prosper was to focus on ” integrating the markets that will consume what we are producing as Africa.”

“We were colonised and suffered slave trade not because our ancestors were weak, but were not well organized. We have got more capacity while operating together hence the need to develop strategic security for Africa” Yoweri Museveni added.


Zuma could be out of jail in four months

Former South African President Jacob Zuma could be out of jail in four months, the justice minister said on Thursday, 8th July, a day after the ex-leader turned himself to the police to start a 15-month sentence – Reuters Africa reports

The former president had initially indicated he saw his sentence as biased and illegitimate and his move on Wednesday was seen as a victory for the post-Apartheid state’s efforts to enforce the rule of law.


Report uncovers rape at Mozambique women’s prison

An official inquiry in Mozambique has confirmed reports of forced prostitution in a women’s prison in the capital, Maputo – BBC Africa reports

The government of Mozambique had set up a commission of inquiry in June to investigate cases of sexual abuse and exploitation. The commission found that the abuses were perpetrated both by prison guards and individuals outside the jail.


China donates COVID Vaccines to Central African Republic

The Republic of China has donated a batch of COVID-19 vaccines to Central African Republic (CAR) – News Central Africa reports

The Vaccine donation was accompanied by the Chinese ambassador to CAR, Chen Dong. And was received by President Faustin-Archange Touadera and his Prime Minister Henri-Marie Dondra at Bangui Airport

The Chinese ambassador to the CAR also disclosed that China and the CAR are working together, demonstrating a community of common destiny.


Over 5 Million COVID Recovery across Africa

As of July 8 confirmed cases of Covid-19 from 55 African countries reached 5,775,157 while over 36,997,059 vaccinations have been administered across the continent – All Africa reports

Reported deaths in Africa reached 148,703 and 5,005,992 people have recovered. South Africa has the most reported cases 2,112,336 and 63,039 people died. Other most-affected countries are Morocco (537,253), Tunisia (464,914), Egypt (282,582), Ethiopia (276,683), Libya (198,142) and Kenya (186,959).
