Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly called Bobi Wine, has accused the ruling party of planning to rig the elections.

Robert who is also the Presidential candidate of the National Unity Platform (NUP) in Uganda’s forthcoming election has positioned himself as the main opposition to President Yoweri Museveni who has held power down for over 30 years.

On Tuesday 12 January 2021, Wine – whose house was raided by the military during a live radio interview – warned voters to guard their votes to prevent fraud.

2. Kenyans blast minister for appointing British Model, Naomi Campbell as ambassador

Kenyans have taken to social media to harshly criticise their government for appointing British model and entrepreneur, Naomi Campbell, as an ambassador for the Kenyan tourism board.

Najib Balala, Kenya’s Minister of Tourism and Wildlife, had in a statement on Tuesday, 12 January, announced the supermodel as Magical Kenya International Tourism Ambassador.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has urged Nigerian citizens against being complacent and letting their guard down in containing the COVID-19 pandemic.

The government also stated that the long-awaited vaccines may not be arriving as soon as it is being expected.

Olorunnimbe Mamora, the country’s Minister of State for Health, made the statement in Abuja the nation’s capital, at the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 briefing.

4. AfDB pledges $6.5bn to battle desertification in Sahel countries

The African Development Bank, AfDB, will assemble $6.5 Billion to support efforts by countries in the Sahel.

Akinwumi Adesina, the AfDB president, made the pledge during the OnePlanet summit hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday.

5. COVID-19: SA to receive 1.5 million doses of AstraZeneca Vaccine from India

South Africa is set to receive 1.5 million doses of the AstraZeneca’s coronavirus vaccine from India in January and February.

The doses will primarily go to the 1.25 million people who are employed in the public and private health care sector, the ministry added.
