Inspiration of the week: Everything you need to know about Shudufhadzo Musida | #MissSouthAfrica2020

Shudufhadzo Musida

Who would have thought that her first attempt at pageantry will be one of the defining moments of her life?

Shudufhadzo Musida has been crowned #MissSouthAfrica2020. The 24 year old was crowned after emerging the best among 15 other contestants from across the country. Shudufhadzo Musida takes over from Zozibini Tunzi who was crowned Miss Universe in 2019.

Shudufhadzo Musida was born on 18 July 1996. She hails from Ha-Maisa village, Vhembe District Municipality of the Limpopo province. She studied at the University of Pretoria where she earned a Bachelor of Social Science degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics. Before winning Miss South Africa, she was completing an Honors degree in International Relations at the University of Witwatersrand. She is one of two sisters; her mother Thandi is a real estate agent.

In October 2020, at the Miss South Africa finals, held at Table Bay Hotel in Cape Town, Musida won the prestigious crown. Before the finals, she had won the public vote. Prizes for winning the final included 1 million rand, and use of a fully furnished luxury Sandton apartment and a Mercedes-Benz C200 Cabriolet for one year. Musida is devoted to advocating for mental health awareness and the educational and economic empowerment of children and women. Former Miss South Africa and current Miss Universe, Zozibini Tunzi is cited as a key role model by Musida.

What does this mean for young Africans who desire to become beauty pageants?

Beauty, they say is in the eye of the beholder. However, many of us have standards we hold on to and that eventually determines what beauty means to us. Young ladies don’t have to win beauty competitions to believe they are beautiful. Everyone does have a journey and the fact that the other 9 contestants did not emerge as winners do not mean that they are not beautiful or relevant to the world.

Again, there is no ranking in beauty in the world. Time and chance happens and there is a winner, who then goes ahead to do other things with her life after wearing the crown for a year. Also, your relevance does not stop after a year of reigning as a queen, it continues as long as you desire to.

There are no limits to what any lady who wins the competition or not can do. There are no limits to the ladies who did not participate at all. There are no limits to ladies and girls who have made it a life goal to become Miss South Africa or any other country.

How to become a beauty pageant in Africa from the comfort of your home

Believe in yourself.

Speak words of affirmations over yourself

Give off positive vibes only

Maintain peace at all times

Worry less, Celebrate more

Be grateful in all circumstances

Maintain healthy relationships

Keep good company

Drink a lot of water and

Mind your business

Once again, congratulations Shudufhadzo Musida on winning Miss South Africa for the year 2020.
