World Teachers’ Day, an international day that holds annually on October 5 was established in 1994. It commemorates the signing of the 1966 UNESCO/ILORecommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, which is a standard-setting instrument that addresses the status and situations of teachers around the world. This recommendation outlines standards relating to education personnel policy, recruitment, and initial training as well as the continuing education of teachers, their employment, and working conditions. World Teachers’ Day focuses on “appreciating, assessing and improving the educators of the world” and to provide an opportunity to consider issues related to teachers and teaching.

Teachers are a blessing to our generations, past, present, and the future, no doubt. If Africa is any better, teachers who have dedicated their time and energy to raising the next generation of leaders should be given the credit.
More than any child will spend with their parents, the teachers are the next in line. While we appreciate teachers, resources should be provided by the government, citizens, organisations, in the education industry so that teaching becomes more than the profession it is.
Teaching is a calling. It is a strategic means to shape the mindset of any child or adult. Many more teachers are needed in Africa but sometimes there is that notion that teaching is done out of pity or the lack of a better opportunity. We should have teachers who know beyond reasonable doubt that they can teach and be comfortable doing so. The importance of this profession have to emphasized.
Teachers, if you’re reading this, you’re important. You’re most likely the next person a child/adult spends time with after their family, so let’s make it count. Give your heart to what you do. Give everything you got because the lives in your hands, literally, is precious. You have the key to bettering the future of this continent or whatever continent you’re on. You are change-makers.
There is absolutely more to teaching.
