All over the world, the fight against COVID-19 has not stopped. The pandemic has claimed thousands of lives, sickened tens of thousands and the numbers don’t stop. In Africa, the virus has spread to dozens of countries within weeks. Governments and health authorities across the continent are striving to limit widespread infections.
Several governments have put measures in place, like lockdown and curfew, so the virus stops spreading. Yet, more cases are recorded. Fortunately, recoveries are reported too.
Private organisations and individuals have funded the opening of more testing centres and the provision of kits – also to make sure people do not die of hunger as cities and whole countries are locked down.
All over Africa, the prayer point is: “let this stop already” as Africa cannot hold a lockdown for too long. And, even governments across countries in Africa are already asking for support/relief funds as they do not have the capacity to hold on for long.
As we continue the fight against a disease that’s ravaging through, these are the figures as at April 3, 2020, 20:30 GMT:
