It’s President Yoweri Museveni’s birthday and here’s why it matters

The people of Uganda are celebrating the birthday of their beloved President today and the country is filled with mixed feelings from citizens – those who love the President and those who just want him out.

People have taken to social media to wish the President a happy birthday, since they are not able to go to his house to collect ‘national’ cake, sorry, cake. Using the hashtag #HappyBirthdaySevo, they have been able to communicate their feelings hoping he sees it.

Today must have been great for the President of Uganda though, the numerous phone calls he’d have gotten from other Presidents. Imagine the phone call goes like this;

President 1: Hello President Museveni

President Museveni: Hello my friend

President 1: I called to wish you a Happy Birthday. Long life and prosperity as you rule. I mean, how long have you been President? You know, I want to rule for a long time here in my country, just like you.

President Museveni: Just a couple of years, you know. You know how time flies. And our airports are not open yet, you know. Hehe! *Coughs*

President 1: Oh I see, Happy Birthday Sevo.

President Museveni: Thank you my son! Thank you.

His birthday did spark concern just like it was pointed earlier in this article.

Here are some of the things people said on twitter as it related to their president.

Some retorted to calling him a dictator.

Others saying this is his last birthday celebration as their president

And some were being outright sarcastic

Some received appointments and were grateful for it.

Some defended the president with their tweets.

Oh well, what more is needed.

Happy Birthday, President Yoweri Museveni
