Sudan army men held for killing protesters
Sudan’s military has disclosed that it has handed over to the attorney general the findings of an investigation into the killing of two demonstrators at a recent rally calling for justice for victims of violence against protesters in 2019 – Africa News reports
In a separate report on Sudan Tribune, seven army personnel had been arrested and will be handed to prosecutors for interrogation, citing the Attorney General.
Social Media restricted in Ethiopia
Social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram have been restricted in Ethiopia – Reuters Africa reports
The restriction was observed by internet blockage observatory NetBlocks on Monday, 17th May.
“Network data show Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram restricted in #Ethiopia,” NetBlocks said in a tweet.
The London-based watchdog’s director Alp Toker told Reuters that Netblocks observed the restrictions at six locations across Ethiopia.

30 sentenced to death in D.R. Congo Eid clashes

COVID-19: Death till exceeds 12600 across Africa
As of May 16, confirmed cases of Covid-19 from 55 African countries reached 4,681,225 while over 15,420,119 vaccinations have been administered across the continent – All Africa reports
Reported deaths in Africa reached 126,088 and 4,196,658 people have recovered. South Africa has the most reported cases – 1,611,143 – and 55,183 people died. Other most-affected countries are Morocco ( 514,817 ), Tunisia ( 325,832 ), Ethiopia ( 265,832 ), Egypt ( 244,520 ), Libya ( 181,179 ) and Nigeria ( 165,702 ).
